SmCo grade comparison

XGS 35H vs XGS 35

Similar room-temperature magnetic output ranges. Different intrinsic-coercivity minimums.

The short answer

At 20 °C, XGS 35H and XGS 35 share the same published remanence and energy-product ranges. The principal difference in the published specifications is intrinsic coercivity: at least 25 kOe for 35H and at least 18 kOe for 35.

Values are drawn from the same grade data used by the grade finder. Hcb and Hcj are separate properties and should not be substituted for one another.

What this means for a motor design

Matching Br and (BH)max ranges do not make the grades interchangeable. The higher published Hcj minimum for 35H is an important input when reviewing reverse-field exposure and the risk of irreversible demagnetization.

Selection still requires the magnetic circuit, component geometry, operating temperature and exposure conditions. Use the relevant demagnetization behaviour and a defined sample-validation plan, rather than treating the grade suffix as an automatic application approval.

For a compact motor or actuator, compare the material requirement with the rotor envelope and magnetic orientation. A change in grade should be assessed against the intended working point and the complete component specification.

Keep specification ranges separate from showcase results

The 2026 brochure highlights 35.3 MGOe for XGS 35H. Its selection table publishes 33–35 MGOe at 20 °C, and the company presentation also shows individual measured curves. A showcase value or one measured specimen is not a guaranteed minimum for every delivered magnet.

There is also a temperature-description difference within the 2026 brochure: the XGS 35H showcase page lists 300 °C, while the selection table places the H-series in the 350 °C group. This guide does not resolve that difference by choosing the larger number. Confirm the applicable maximum operating temperature and its conditions in the project specification.

Bring the working point to the discussion

Send the temperature range, reverse-field requirement, geometry and magnetization direction with your preferred grade. Agree the magnetic acceptance criteria and measurement temperature before comparing samples or quotations.

Engineering questions

What is the main published difference between XGS 35H and XGS 35?

At 20 °C both grades have published Br of 1.18–1.21 T and maximum energy product of 33–35 MGOe. XGS 35H has an intrinsic-coercivity minimum of 25 kOe, compared with 18 kOe for XGS 35.

Is the 35.3 MGOe brochure value the minimum specification for XGS 35H?

No. The 2026 brochure uses 35.3 MGOe as a showcase value, while its selection table publishes a 33–35 MGOe range at 20 °C. Keep the specification range separate from a showcase or individual test result.

Compare SmCo grades

Compare only properties measured at the same temperature. Each published test condition is shown separately.

Temperature specification note Specification confirmation: page 8 groups H-series grades at 350 °C, while page 3 lists XGS 35H at 300 °C. Confirm the applicable grade specification before design approval. The 35.3 MGOe showcase value on page 3 is not the 33–35 MGOe specification range on page 8.
